Awnings and Awning Rails

Expanding your camper into the outside!

Awnings are particularly important for those with families, or those that use their van for sporting events. It's great to have the option to either wind out an awning, or add a drive away awning to the vehicle. Whether you are off to France, or Devon, having that extra space is very much needed for longer camper outings.

Which awning do I need?

Deciding on which awning to get depends on what your intended use is. But don't forget that if you add a wind out awning, you can still use a driveaway awning, by attaching it to the built-in awning rail on the wind out awning. However, with a rail, you cannot (obviously) use a wind out awning, unless you fit one at a later date (which is perfectly do-able). There are a range of benefits for both awning types; drive away rails are great for longer periods away with family, and great to provide extra sleeping space outside. Wind out awnings are fantastic for weekend or day trips, where you need some shade and extra space, but don't want the inconvenience of erecting a driveaway awning for a short period of time.

We use a range of brands for these items;

  • Wind out awnings: we mostly use Fiamma, but we can also use Dometic or Thule. We fit these to a range of vehicles, not just VW Transporters.
  • Driveaway awning rails: our go to is Reimo, or Viper. We will not use any other brand.
  • Driveaway awnings: we are Vango dealers and can supply airbeam and poled awnings from Vango!
